GIANT ROAD BIKES

Giant Road Bikes LogoGiant Road Bikes are present at the very top of the cycling professional circuit and are one of the worlds largest cycle manufacturers. The Giant Bicycle company started life in 1972 in Tachia, Taichung and started life as an OEM manufacturing bikes for other big cycle brands such as Schwinn Bikes and Nishiki. Giant Bicycles took off in their right when in 1986 new company president Bill Austin started the Giant Bicycle brand catering initially for the $200 + range of cycles. Ginat is now a large global bike maker famed for its quality and is sold in over 50 countries in well over 10,000 cycle retail stores and growing. Giant Bicycles global sales reached over 5 million bicycles sold in 2007 generating over $820 million for global revenues.  Giant Road Bikes have a strong presence in the Pro cycle teams circuit and in 2006 introduced the Giant TCR Advanced Road Bike Frame. Made for high modulus carbon fibre with a compact geometry and an integrated seat post to further save on weight. And increase stiffness of the Giant TCR frame. As a direct result of the Giant TCR compact geometry the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) altered the requirements to allow for frames like the Giant TCR with sloping top tubes. The design ahs been copied by many leading road bike makers and has proved a great success on the Pro Cycle scene and amongst serious road cyclists.

Road Bicycles (racing cycles) are typically designed to be ridden on tarmac roads at high speed for this reason they are made from light weight materials such as carbon, titanium and aluminum to reduce the effort required for a rider to cycle up hills or mountains. Most Road bikes have multiple gears with a cassette of sprockets at the back wheel and often with a two or three ring sprocket at the drive chain. multi gear bikes are far more flexible depending on the incline of the road being ridden. Road cycles are generally fitted with thin wheels and tyres to reduce drag from the road and allow faster riding. Drop down handle bars are preferred for aerodynamic advantages when descending or sprinting. Road Bicyles differ greatly in price with the top end models such as those used by professional cyclist in pro cycle events such as the Tour de France and Giro d' Italia running into thousands. Reasonable and entry level Road bikes can be found at much more affordable prices in many Bike stores and online.
