Lemond Racing Bikes Company was founded by ex pro cyclist and twice winner of the Tour De France Greg Lemond in 1990 while he was still racing as a professional cycle rider. After a couple of years where problems arose with the Lemond Cycle company Lemond joined forces with The US bike maker Trek cycles who would license Lemond’s name for bicycles trek would build, Trek would also distribute and help design Lemond Road Bikes all of which would be sold under the Lemond name. Greg Lemond would still own the Lemond Cycle Company. After a number of successful years with Trek and the Lemond brand. Difficulties arose over an ongoing dispute between Trek and Lemond over allegations that Trek were putting more marketing effort into Lance Armstrong who won all of his seven tour de France races on a Trek Road Bike. By April 2008 Greg Lemond against Trek and the Trek CEO John Burke filed a lawsuit. After This Trek decided to pull the plug on the relationship with Greg Lemond and stopped building and marketing bikes under the Lemond brand. The Lemond Bikes website is currently not available due to the ongoing dispute. Greg Lemond was the first non European rider to win the Tour De France and went on to win cycling’s most prised race a total of three times before retiring. Lemond Road Bikes continue to be a sort after brand and are made to a very high spec carry as they do the Lemond badge. Current Lemond Race Bike models include the Lemond Tete De Course and Tourmalet both highly respected road cycle models and carrying a price tag to match. The Lemond Brand should still continue despite the problems between Greg and Trek and it is hoped we will see Lemond Road Bikes continue to prosper.
